Fostering Your Child’s Passion

A passion for something is a gift. When your children have a passion for dance and theater, you want to nurture their interest and allow them to grow into the best they can be. If you are looking to enroll your child in a performing arts school, here are a few things you can do to get started.

Confirm your child’s interest. A performing arts school can be pricey, so make sure your child is interested before signing up. You can always take classes for a trial period before making a larger commitment. Ask yourself if your child loves dancing and acting over other activities, including other sports or groups. You likely will not have time for more than one extracurricular activity, as the commitment is high.

Find a good school. The next thing you want to do is find a school that will teach your children everything they need to know. Use Canada 411 to find the schools near you, and, if your child is involved at school, ask his or her instructor what good schools are in the area. Other things to consider are what your child is interested in. Do you want to find a school that specializes in theatre? What about ballet or hip-hop? This can help you make the best decision.

Prepare for the application process. Once you have decided on the school, meet with an official and begin the process of applying. This may mean preparing a routine to present and handing over report cards from other schools. Above all else, let your child know that you support her interest and can’t wait to watch her succeed.
